Brew Guide Instructions

Moka Pot

This iconic method brews a strong, robust cup. It relies on steam pressure in the lower section of the pot forcing hot water through the coffee without overheating it. The grind is all important, to control the rate of flow. The result is a deliciously intense flavour - perfect for home grown lattes that can be brewed just about anywhere you can take your stove!
You will need:
  • 1 Moka Pot
  • Fine ground coffee
  • For outdoor lovers, a camp stove and a hand grinder!
Instructions
  • Ratio’s are useful when using different brewing methods and in this case it’s 9.25ml water : 1 gram of coffee for a Bialetti 6-cupper. However, we find that pots vary, so just fill water to the line in the bottom section, and level fill the brewing basket with correctly ground coffee.
  • Pour water into the bottom section of the pot, filling to just under the valve.  Use hot water to speed the brewing process up, if you prefer.
  • Fill the filter basket with correctly ground coffee – finer than filter, but slightly coarser than true espresso. Resist the urge to over compact the coffee, simply level it off.
  • Place the filter basket into the filled base, and tightly screw on the top section of the pot.
  • With the lid open, place the pot onto a medium/high heat and watch.
  • As the pressure builds in the lower section, water at below boiling point is forced up through the coffee into the upper chamber. Espresso will appear, ‘bleeding’ through slowly. As soon as the flow starts to speed up, bubbling through in a pale colour – close the lid and remove the pot from the heat.  If you prefer a more intense brew, remove the pot sooner.
  • Once the bubbling stops, your coffee is ready to drink.
  • Serve with hot milk, drink neat, or add hot water for a strong Americano.
