Classic Java has a well-established history in the world of coffee. The isle of Java has spectacular growing conditions for the varietal of Typica. With nutrient rich, volcanic soils, coffee grows very well here. Known as Old Government Java in its heyday, this coffee has a history strongly linked to the spice trade of many moons ago.
Similar to a monsoon processing, traders in the 16-17th century transported coffee by ship to lands beyond. The exposure of marine air developed and ‘seasoned’ coffee along the journey, creating rich, earthy, red wine nuances that have been become so synonymous with the origin of java coffees.
