If you’re anything like me, you may have been wondering how to put your Alexa or Siri to good use, other than asking it about the weather, telling jokes or making the occasional farting noise to embarrass granny (the latter works surprisingly well with Alexa, but Siri is still far too polite).
Well, I’ve started using mine to help me make the perfect filter brew. Regardless of method, one of the most critical aspects of getting the perfect brew is to get the ratio of coffee to water exactly right. Unless you’re a maths wizard, there’s help on hand from your phone or digital assistant, should you have one, be it Alexa, Siri, Google or some other helpful heathen who sits in the corner of your kitchen doing who knows what…
You’ll still need the all important set of digital scales, but say you are making a Filter Brew and want to get the ratio spot on without having to worry about hitting an exact target dose. Say you throw 37 grams of coffee into the paper, just try asking Siri or whoever to multiply up the answer for the right dose of water, assuming you’re weighing that on too. I use 17g Water to 1g Coffee for Filter, Siri has just helpfully told me that I need 629 grams (or ml) of hot water to perfect my brew.
Here’s a quick guide to my brew ratios, but you can, of course, adjust yours to suit your own taste buds:
Cafetiere: 18g Water: 1g Coarse ground Coffee, so ask Siri, or whoever, to multiply your coffee weight by 18.
Filter: 17g Water: 1g Finer ground Coffee
Bialetti/Stovetop: 14g Water: 1g Fine ground Coffee
Try it – at last you’ll find the darn thing useful!
